My wife and I have two children and like many Australian families, we found ourselves unable to find a dinosaur toy that wasn't just cheap plastic or flashing lights and roars. We would spend our money and the toys would simply break or be forgotten within days.
I've loved dinosaurs for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I watched Walking With Dinosaurs, Jurassic Park and Disney's Dinosaur countless times, and one of my favourite possessions was a realistic Tyrannosaurus rex figure that went everywhere with me. That fascination never disappeared and has since been passed down to my own kids. There is however a new breed of dinosaur model that makes the one I had back in my day look like a chew toy!
As the kids have grown older they have started to appreciate the attention to details in their models, the size, weight, shape, colours, textures and wrinkles in the skin. They could tell the difference between a cheap toy and a model that felt genuinely well made and a replica of the real thing. Before long, all the others were left collecting dust while these models took prime real estate on the shelf.
